Description

This recipe is to show you an easy simple way how to blanch almonds at home. Blanched almonds are often used in recipes where the skin might interfere with the texture.

Blanched almonds are raw almonds that have had their skins removed. The process involves briefly covering raw almonds in hot boiled water to loosen their skins, which are then peeled off.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • 2 cups boiled water
  • tap water to cover blanched almonds

Instructions

  1. Place raw almonds in a medium-sized bowl.
  2. Cover them with boiled water and let them sit for up to 15 minutes.
  3. Strain the water. At this point, the almond skins will have softened and should be easy to peel.
  4. Hold each almond between your fingers and press gently to slip the skin off.
  5. Continue the process until all the almonds are peeled.
  6. Keep the peeled almonds in a bowl of tap water to prevent them from discoloring, as they tend to darken when exposed to air.

Notes

  • Blanched almonds can be stored in an airtight container filled with water for up to a week to maintain their freshness.
  • To freeze, drain the water, place the almonds in a ziplock bag, and freeze them for up to 3 months.
  • Be sure to keep raw almonds submerged in water to prevent discoloration.
